Johannesburg South Africa

(Click any picture for larger view)

There were many speaking opportunities
in Johannesburg.  As soon as I arrived
I was taken to preach at the an
evening service (Left).  The next evening
I preached at an outdoor service (Right).

Church is a gathering of believers
and is not dependent on the building.
I preached Sunday morning in a
tent (Left) and on Sunday evening
in a converted movie theater (Right).

Although the big cities of South Africa
are very modern, they each have what
they call Squatter Camps somewhere
on the outskirts.  These are areas where
people set up small metal shacks and
claim an area of land.  I visited and prayed
with several families and was impressed
with the cleanliness both inside and out.

My host family while in Johannesburg.
Thank you Darren for sharing your room!
An interesting note: Most everyone in
Africa speak several different languages.
Even Darren spoke three languages.
In SA there are 11 official languages.
This can sometimes create a paperwork
nightmare for the government.

The official languages of SA are:
English, Afrikaans, Setswana,
Sesotho, Sepedi, IsiZulu,
IsiXhosa, IsiNdebele,
IsiSwati, Shangaan
and Venda.
